International Women’s Day 2024
These photos were during the 2024 Women’s Day march in Mexico City- a yearly demonstration against the gender-based violence, killings, and other injustices that women face daily. According to the Statista Research Department the number of women in Mexico killed on account of their gender in 2024 alone was 797. This specific violence against women often goes unpunished, and there is no justice for these women or their families. These photos depict the women of Mexico City (along with children and other supporters) taking to the streets to be the voices of those who have been taken, while simultaneously speaking out against economic disadvantages, sexual violence, lack of access to healthcare, and other issues that are ignored by those around them and neglected by the greater administration.
